Key goals of the EMPOWER campaign are to:
- Expand capacity to meet Nebraska’s growing workforce needs. Career and technical programs have a substan- tial impact on our state’s workforce shortages and needs. With more than 60 programs of study already in operation, SCC is uniquely suited to help fill these gaps and strengthen Nebraska’s homegrown talent.
- Advance access to affordable higher education and improve educational attainment. By providing open access to the life-changing benefits of higher education, SCC is working to educate the state’s population in ways that work best for them and their future employers.
- Enhance quality of life and prosperity in Nebraska. By training Nebraska’s future professionals, SCC is actively building for the growth and future of the 15-county service area.
Southeast Community College seeks to transform and empower its diverse learners for fulfilling careers, life- long learning, and community and societal advancement.
Sandhills Global Technology Center
Southeast Community College enrolls more than 500 students in its IT programs each year and graduates approximately 70. However, the demand for IT professionals in Nebraska far exceeds the workforce supply. The new Sandhills Global Technology Center on SCC’s Lincoln campus will include specialized lab spaces, room for program growth, along with dynamic and innovative technologies.
Welding Technology Center
Existing Welding spaces on the Lincoln Campus no longer meet the needs of modern teaching and learning. The rooms are too small for the class sizes desired for interactive, engaged instruction, while equipment and technology are also insufficient, and classrooms lack demonstration space. There is a lack of fabrication and equipment demonstration in the lab space, with large pieces of equipment placed in trafficways, causing safety concerns.
Construction Technologies Center
As part of its Phase II Facilities Master Plan, Southeast Community College is planning for a Construction Technology Center on its Milford Campus. This center will support construction-related programs, creating capacity to expand educational offerings and the number of students in high-demand programs.
Agriculture Career Center
The proposed new Agriculture Career Building directly addresses the skills gap crisis in Nebraska by expanding SCC’s capacity to produce a skilled workforce for the state’s agriculture industry. The new facility will be equipped with simulation and other innovative technologies that are consistent with the advanced technologies that are now standard in the agriculture industry. This allows SCC to produce skilled graduates as well as industry leaders who can collaborate and lead in critical and vital industry.
